Projects

The child we bring to safety, the girl we pluck from misery, the man we give a chance to, will never be just numbers in a project, but names in a new story.

Welcome to Gana Gana!

The farm of Izahay Dia!

Our mascot.

GANA GANA

First of all, we built Izahay Dia!

It is a village that hosts more than 100 children that are not orphans any more.

It was not easy. We had to face and overcome a lot of difficulties, but now this village is full of girls, boys and flowers.

Whoever comes and visits us feels that it is a special place.

We want to manage to preserve it as it is, and to do so we need to make it self-sufficient both from an energetic and a food point of view. However, these are two difficult challenges for a country like Madagascar, that is affected by deforestation and the consequences of climate change. Overcultivation, wildfire and coal production have in fact led to the generalised deforestation, the increasing of the levels of carbon dioxide and have caused damages to the already unstable ecosystems (some of these damages could be irreversible).

Actually, we are witnessing more and more dry spells (particularly in the South of the country) interrupted by typhoons and other natural disasters. Climate change, just like wars and epidemics, is something that concerns also equity and social justice, and the first affected are the most vulnerable people and groups, such as women and children.

Wood consumption and high costs of electricity pushed us to invest in solar energy.

We have therefore provided the village with a solar panel system which will allow us to avoid the use of wood and coal, drastically decreasing the bills’ costs.

To reach the second goal, the one about food self-sufficiency, we bought three hectares of uncultivated land that borders the village. Here, we are building the “Ganagana” happy farm, a term that in Malagasy means “duck”. After having dug wells, we started to plant mango, papaya and banana trees, and then also other crops and a small paddy field. In addition to agriculture, there is also livestock, which includes hens, pigs, ducks, zebus and cows.

We gave ourselves one year and a half time to reach the goal of feeding all our children only with our products.

This is real local food!

And now that you know the project...
